Awilda Melbune-  ESL Coordinator and Instructional Specialist

Awilda Reynoso-Melbune, M.Ed. is an educator, instructional coach, and scholar-practitioner with over a decade of experience in special education, ESL instruction, MTSS coordination, instructional coaching, and educational leadership. She is a mom of two kids and is family-oriented, with a strong commitment to equitable and inclusive education.

Originally from the Dominican Republic, Ms. Melbune migrated to the United States in 2002 with limited English proficiency.

She earned an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts from Hostos Community College and a Bachelor of Arts in Childhood Education from Herbert H. Lehman College, both in the State of New York, and a Master of Education in Special Education from the University of Phoenix.

Ms.Melbune is completing her Doctor of Education in Curriculum Design and Leadership at the University of Phoenix, where her research—Challenges with Hispanic English Language Learner (ELL) Students’ Placement into Special Education Classes—explores how general education teachers perceive placement decisions and the factors that influence those decisions. She is currently preparing for her oral defense. 

 

Ms. Melbune serves as an Instructional Coach with ISG, partnering with educators and school leaders to strengthen instructional practices, support data-informed decision-making, and promote inclusive teaching. She has also served as a Special Education Instructor and MTSS Coordinator at the International School of Louisiana, as well as an ESL Instructor at River Parishes Community College.

Ms. Melbune remains committed to supporting teachers, empowering students, and partnering with families to ensure equitable opportunities for culturally and linguistically diverse learners.
